Finishing the First Work Day
It was drizzling lightly when I got off work on Tuesday, so I took advantage of the flexibility of Citibike by riding the subway home. From the fullness of the dock on Broad Street, lots of other people opted to bail out as well.
The next day, I worked from home, so didn't do any biking. The following day, however, I was ready to try my first round-trip to and from work.
Starting Another Day - Loading Up
I had a few items to take with me to work: my lunch and some papers. I bagged them and used the bungee cords on the front plate of the bike to secure my bag.You can see below my bag secured as well as the default arrangement of the bungee on the front plate of the bike next to mine.
Round Tripping
The weather's just about starting to feel like summer here - it was supposed to hit 90 the day I set out for my first round trip to work. The view and the sea-breeze off the East River was refreshing as I set off down that bikeway. The so-called "East River" is actually a tidal estuary where it runs alongside Manhattan, so it will sometimes run "upstream" if the tide's coming in.
Its open expanse makes for some fine views.
Here we see some forbidding buildings and pipes close up as we bike on by.
However, most of the views are more pleasant than this.
Here, I made a slight detour to get a better look at the seal statues I'd noticed the other day. We can also see a runner along a path closer to the river than the one I've been using. This will merit investigation as I continue to explore this route.
Coming on Home
As I began the second leg of my first round trip, the summer-like weather was evident in the warmth of the setting sun reflected from this tower in legendary Brooklyn. The start of my homeward journey finds me sharing biking paths with the many pedestrians enjoying the sights and sounds of South Street Seaport.
Further on up we see that the Delancey Street Footbridge is pretty crowded today as well.
And as I come to my home-stretch of the East River Bikeway, both amblers and runners are evident, with the Empire State Building looming on the skyline as they enjoy the evening breeze off the river.
